Etching, the design layer
Etching frosts patterns into the surface: florals, geometry, names. It reads softly where light passes through, which makes it perfect for main doors, bathroom screens and partitions.
V-grooving, the line work
V-grooving cuts polished V-shaped lines into the glass. Where etching is soft, grooving is crisp, borders, grids and diamonds that sparkle at the edge. The two combined (frosted fields, polished lines) is the classic premium door look.
Acid texture, the overall finish
Acid texture is an all-over matte finish, plain or coloured, that takes glare off glass and gives privacy without darkness. Use it where you want the sheet itself to feel finished rather than patterned.
Which finish gives the most privacy?
A full etched (frosted) panel or acid texture gives the most privacy and still lets light through. V-grooving on its own gives almost no privacy, because the glass between the lines stays clear, so it is often combined with an etched background.
Which finish is easiest to clean?
Acid texture is the easiest, because the surface is smooth to touch. Sandblasted etching can hold fingerprints and oil, so it is best kept on the side away from hands, or sealed. V-grooves can collect dust in the lines on horizontal surfaces.
Quick picks by room
- Bathroom window or shower: acid texture or frosted glass, toughened
- Main door or pooja room: etched design
- Wardrobe and kitchen shutters: V-groove lines, or lacquered glass
- Office cabin: frosted privacy band at eye level
